Tech City Content Counselor: The VAT Intelligence Department has found evidence of VAT evasion of Tk 3 crore 40 lakhs against Foodpander in the country.
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has also filed a case against Foodpander.According to the VAT Intelligence Department, according to the documents seized during the operation in Foodpanda, the company sold a total of Tk 27 crore 58 lakh 57 thousand 517 in the months from July 2019 to January 2020 and April.
‘There they have shown the sales data of 15 crore 65 lakh 19 thousand 972 rupees. In this case the VAT to be avoided is 53 lakh 10 thousand 74 rupees. 56 lakh 66 thousand 26 rupees for house rent and 1 crore 24 lakh 35 thousand 553 rupees for withholding tax. Here the total stands at 2 crore 34 lakh 11 thousand 653 rupees. And 1 crore 5 lakh 40 thousand 260 rupees VAT for interest on this unpaid VAT. In all, VAT of Tk 3 crore 40 lakhs has been evaded, ‘said the VAT Intelligence Department.
The raid was carried out at the office of Foodpanda Bangladesh Limited on specific allegations of VAT evasion.

According to the VAT Intelligence Department, Foodpanda collects food from about 5,000 companies and supplies it to the consumers. They take commission from the institutions. Foodpanda shows VAT documents of the organization during the operation. However, the search revealed the secret information of the monthly sales on the laptop of the senior officer. Also some commercial documents are available.
From the information obtained during the operation, VAT detectives said that Foodpanda is doing business with registration under information technology service code S-099.10. They were not paying VAT on house rent. The company sells products using an electronic network (online platform). Its service code is S-099.60. It has 5 percent VAT and 15 percent VAT on house rent.
Foodpanda started its activities in Bangladesh in 2013.
