Munna Bhakta. He is 20 years old. For the last four years, he has been working as a dome assistant with his uncle in the morgue of Shaheed Suhrawardy Hospital in the capital. In doing so, he engaged in perverted sex. Munna used to rape whenever a relatively good body was found in the morgue between the ages of 12 and 20.
So far, he has been doing this perverted work without any hindrance, but he was caught by the CID recently. The body of a 12- to 20-year-old girl was brought to the morgue of Suhrawardy Hospital for autopsy. Every corpse is suicidal. The inquest report on the bodies showed no signs of injury or rape. However, the ‘high vaginal swab’ (HVS) of each corpse sent by the doctor to the CID laboratory was found to be male sperm. Surprisingly, the same male sperm is found in each of them. After that, CID sat motionless on the issue.
The incident came to the notice of the CID from a few samples sent from the forensic medicine department of Suhrawardy Hospital from March 29 last year to August 23 this year.
The first DNA lab of Bangladesh Police was set up in 2012. Since the establishment of the lab, the CID has created DNA tests and profiles of all the evidence sent by the court, including rape and murder. From March last year to August this year, the forensic medicine department of Suhrawardy Hospital sent some samples to the CID where the CID found the presence of male sperm in the HVS of the dead girl. CID then tried to create a complete DNA profile.
According to CID sources, they searched the CODIS software and found that the DNA of the same person was repeatedly matching with the DNA profile obtained in some cases in Mohammadpur and Kafrul police stations. Which was pretty unusual.
That’s when the CID suspected that somehow a person had sexually abused the bodies of the victims. CID is investigating the matter.
According to the CID, all the bodies were kept in the morgue of Suhrawardy Hospital for autopsy and DNA analysis. There were several domes guarded regularly. But in the case of these corpses, a dome assistant was on regular duty. This is the suspicion of CID. That assistant is Munna Bhakta. Later, the CID collected Munnar’s DNA and analyzed it in the lab of the company and matched it with the DNA of the bodies of the five young women. That’s when the CID became 100% sure about Munnar and launched an operation to arrest him.
Munna was later arrested on Thursday night (November 19) by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
Munnar’s home is in the neighborhood of Juran Mollah in Goaland of Rajbari. He is not an employee of Suhrawardy Hospital. He used to work as an assistant to Dom Mama Jatan Kumar of the hospital.
A press briefing from the CID headquarters on Friday said Munna, a dome assistant at Suhrawardy Hospital’s morgue, had been arrested on charges of raping at least five young women. Munnar’s DNA profile matched and it was scientifically proven that he had perverted sex on the body.
