Famous Bangladeshi actor Mosharraf Karim has signed a contract for a new movie in Kolkata. Producer and West Bengal Education Minister Bratya Basu will direct the political thriller based on the life story of Hubba Shyamal, popularly known as Dawood Ibrahim of Hooghly.
Commenting on the film, Bratya Basu told the Kolkata media, “In this film, I want to portray the changing landscape of Bengali politics in the age of globalization. There will be a mix of comedy with crime. ‘
It is known that Hubba Shyamal, known as Dawood Ibrahim of Hughli, appeared in the late nineties. Hubba Shyamal was the sole authority in the dark world of Hooghly district. He was charged with 30 counts of murder, kidnapping and drug trafficking. He was arrested three times by the police but was released on bail.
Many still remember Hubba’s dramatic arrest in 2005 from Salt Lake. He used to use 70 mobile phones. The Dawn also voted independently in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, leaving the ruling party in dire straits. He later withdrew his nomination. After being missing for some time in 2011, Hubba Shyamal’s decomposed body floated in the Vaidyabati canal and he was shot dead.
Earlier, Musharraf Karim had responded by acting in the movie ‘Dictionary’ by producer and West Bengal Education Minister Bratya Basu. This was his first Calcutta movie.
