Road Transport and Communications Minister Obaidul Quader said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has allowed battery-powered rickshaws only in Dhaka city. He said that the Prime Minister has given this permission considering the suffering of low-income people.

He said this at the discussion meeting of the first anniversary of Awami League at Bangladesh Awami League Central Office in Dhaka Gulistan today Monday afternoon.

However, battery-powered rickshaws will be closed on 22 highways as per the previous decision, said Obaidul Quader.

15 May In the first meeting of the Road Transport Advisory Council, it was decided to stop battery-powered rickshaws in Dhaka to bring order to the roads. After that, the police launched an operation to stop battery-powered rickshaws in Dhaka. Drivers protested against the ban on battery-powered rickshaws by blocking the road in Dhaka's Mirpur for a day.

The drivers have warned of strict agitation if the decision to stop battery-powered rickshaws in Dhaka is not withdrawn. If this decision is not withdrawn immediately, there will be a movement across the country on 27 May (Monday).

In a rally organized in front of Jatiya Press Club on Monday morning, the Battery-Van and Easybike Sangram Parishad said that if the decision to ban battery-powered rickshaws is not cancelled, they will protest across the country next Monday.

Obaidul Quader also said in the discussion meeting on the foundation anniversary that no leader of BNP has been jailed as a criminal and not as BNP. There are no gangs of criminals. They are criminals and terrorists.
