2.85 crore consumers without power due to Cyclone Remal

Cyclone Remal has caused extensive damage to the power sector. This is disrupting power supply in a large area of ​​the country. Millions of people have been cut off from electricity. But gradually the power supply has started to be normal. However, more than 2.85 crore consumers are still without electricity.

This was informed in a press release sent by the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources on Monday evening. It said that about 2 crore 70 lakh customers of the country's largest electricity distribution company, Rural Electrification Board (REB), were left without electricity. Out of this 3 lakh 21 thousand connections have been re-provided. And till 5 pm West Zone Power Distribution Company (wzpdcl) 4 lakh 53 thousand 81 connections are out of power.

According to the notification, out of 80 Palli Vidyut Samiti of REB, 65 'partially or completely power-connections have been cut off under the Samiti. Out of this, 2 thousand 718 electricity poles have been damaged under 30 societies. 2 thousand 363 transformers destroyed, 22 thousand 886 insulators broken, 53 thousand 465 meters destroyed. Apart from this, the span is 71 thousand 862 points. The overall initial loss is Rs 91 crore 20 lakh.

wzpdcl loss is about 5 crore 77 lakh rupees. 20 power poles were destroyed, 135 were downed, about 24 km of cables were torn. Apart from this, transformers were destroyed and there were other damages.

The Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources says that the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the floating terminal is normal. No harm done here. Now 110 crore cubic feet of gas is being supplied at full capacity. Leave of all employees of REB and wzpdcl has been cancelled. REB and wzpdcl people are ready with necessary equipment to restore power supply to the concerned areas as per the instructions of the power department. Power will be restored as soon as the storm or wind subsides.
